Frequently Asked Questions
Q) We have never been to Barbados before. Where on the island is Driftwood located?
Driftwood is located on the West Coast of Barbados in an area called ‘Mullins’ in the parish of Saint Peter.
The west coast of Barbados has long been called the ‘Platinum Coast’ due to its crystal-clear turquoise waters, golden beaches and stunning private villas and hotels.
The west coast is very calm, in contrast to the east and south coasts.
The Villa is located in a prime west coast beach location at Mullins. There are world class beaches, golf courses, spas, restaurants and shopping all within a few minutes of the villa.
Q) Do we need a hire car?
We personally would suggest that you do book a hire car. Even if it is just for part of your holiday.
Part of the joy of holidaying in Barbados is exploring the island. The north, east and south coasts are all very different, and offer great days out if you want more than just relaxation, beaches and watersports.
The Barbados road network is good, and hire car companies will either supply cars on arrival at the airport or will deliver directly to Driftwood.
Maps are supplied, but they don’t always relate to the roads! But getting lost is part of the fun.
Both mokes, convertibles, SUV’s and 4×4’s are available to rent. Hire cars do sell out during busy periods and it is advisable to book before you arrive.
We suggest the following companies:
- Stoutes Car Rentals: http://www.stoutescar.com/
- Drive-A-Matic: http://www.carhire.tv/
- Direct Car Rentals: http://www.barbadosrentals.net/
If you do not wish to hire a car, then taxis are readily available.
The west coast road and a bus stop to Speightstown, Holetown and Bridgetown is less that a 2 minute walk from the villa. Buses run every couple of minutes during the day.
Q) What do we need to bring on our holiday that I may have forgotten?
Driftwood comes very well equipped with all linens and towels for use both in the bathrooms and by the pool. We would suggest that you bring extra beach towels, for day trips out, as they do get a lot of use.
We do provide some basic supplies, such as tea and coffee on arrival, condiments, cleaning products etc, you will want to bring your own toiletries, sun cream, mosquito repellent etc.
Q) What entertainment facilities are there at Driftwood?
We offer a TV with national and cable tv channels. Wifi internet is available throughout the property, and there is a Sonos music system, that works via the Sonos App or a cable jack into your iphone/ipad etc.
There is also a selection of guide books and magazines.
Q) We arrive into Grantley Adams International Airport. What is the best way to get to the villa?
Most flights from the UK and USA arrive into Barbados during late afternoon or early evening.
Customs and immigration can take a while at busy periods.
Once you have cleared customs, the taxi rank is immediately in front of you at arrivals. Taxis vary in quality and size, but you can always easily find what you want. The cost is regulated and should be no more than about $80BBD (approx £27.00).
The journey time to Driftwood takes about 35-45 minutes.
If you would rather have a transfer booked to meet you at the airport then this can be arranged prior to your arrival, but is really not required.
Your other option is to book a rental car and pick it up directly at the airport.
On arrival at Driftwood you will be greeted by our House Manager. (Except for Saturday arrivals, in which case arrangements for key handover is made, and the house manager will meet up with you the following day).
Q) What can we expect from the House Manager and House Keeper?
Prior to your stay, you will normally receive an email to ask for your arrival time and flight details.
The House manager will normally meet you on arrival at the villa and ensure you understand the operation of the house, keys, doors, lights etc. She can also offer advice on trips, restaurants, attractions etc.
The House Keeper will clean and change linens and towels approximately every 3 days during your stay.
Their roles should not be regarded as a maid service. If you wish to do personal washing then the facilities can be used by guests.
During your stay you may also have a visit from the gardener and the pool cleaners who come once a week.
